Progress Not Perfection

After uploading last weeks blog post (click here to read) I spent the following hours re-reading it, mentally tearing it to shreds and generally wondering how I could have written it better.
We all do this right? It's that annoying little voice inside our heads called 'The Perfectionist!'

This compiled with the many incredible posts I'd been reading all week really did nothing to boost my confidence. I actually had the urge to delete my post and re-write it. I almost did. But then one of my blogger friends told me to stop and just with that she got me thinking.

They say that life is about more than just the destination. That it's about the journey we take, the lessons we learn along the way and the experiences had. In reality we were never born to be perfect, we were born to just be. To go through life, making mistakes and hopefully learning from them until we become the best version of ourselves.
No-one ever actually said we had to be perfect and yet we strive for that, thereby creating ridiculous pressure to become something out of our reach. Are you guilty of comparing yourself to your neighbour? Whether it be in work, home, in how you look or in what you do? I certainly am. Ultimately we should stop this and focus on progress not perfection. Because as long as we are progressing, improving all the while, then shouldn't that be enough?

After being a notorious perfectionist all my life, it's going to take time to switch that off. And yes when I look back, I may still feel that a particular piece reads like crap. But I'll just have to accept it and move on to the next piece I'm writing. One thing I've learned for sure is that there's always a danger of starting something to never finish if you keep going back to tweak it. Sometimes you just have to learn to let go a little...
