Your home is your territory, your 'go to' trusted space. It should ideally be a place where you can fully relax, unwind and feel completely at ease. Once that front door is firmly shut, you want to be able to forget the goings on in the world and all of life's stresses.

Some of you reading this will already have the perfect living space, a house where you feel completely at home. But for others, perhaps you're not totally in love with your property. Sure you have a roof over your head, but it's not quite home and you'd love to put your own stamp on it, to make it a truly enjoyable place to live.

If you're feeling this way, there are things you can do. Take a look at these three elements which are a necessity for a happier home.

Comfort

First and foremost you need to feel comfortable in your surroundings and this can be surprisingly difficult to achieve. By following some basic rules, you can make a huge difference to the overall comfort levels in your home. Whatever the size and layout, you need to make sure that you are using the space to your advantage. As a rule, you should try and find a reasonable balance between how much furniture and how much empty space you have. The goal is to ensure that you always feel comfortable no matter how much you have going on around you.

Temperature

There is nothing worse than not having any control over the temperature in your home. However, many homes still do not have such capabilities. If you want your home to be the ideal space for you to unwind and relax in, then being able to keep it as cool or as warm as you please is likely to be vital. Of course, there are many ways to gain this functionality, from the very low-tech to the high-tech. You might simply want to be able to get warm when getting out of the shower, in which case you could keep your towels warm with electric heated towel rails. Or you might want full control, and find that installing a thermostat in each room is the best way to go.

Light

We often overlook lighting when re-designing the home, and yet it is a hugely important aspect, particularly when trying to make your home a more enjoyable place to be. You will probably find that being able to have good lighting will make a world of difference. Light levels can profoundly affect the way that you experience any space so ideally you should aim to make the lighting in your home as perfect as possible for whatever your needs. Bear in mind the look you are going for yes, but also consider how comfortable you'll feel relaxing after a long, hard day too.
