There may be more of us on the planet, but when it comes to finding love, it’s never more difficult. Contrary to popular belief, you probably won’t find the man you’re looking for at your local pub. In fact, when you think about, have you ever really met a relationship-worthy man in a pub before? Most happily married couples will tell you that they met their partners in the unlikeliest of places, so if you’re single and looking for a relationship it may be time to think outside the box. Here are some places your dream man could be lurking.
Speed Dating
In a busy world, sometimes there’s just not enough time to go on long dates and kiss a bunch of frogs before finding your prince. Speed dating is a great option for anyone on the career ladder with little time. You’ll get to meet up to 20 potential matches every time you go. Okay, you may not find the one you’re looking for right away, but it will open doors. Speed dating isn’t just about finding someone to spend the rest of your life with, it’s about making friends too. And one of those friends may introduce you to someone spectacular.
The Gym
Meeting your perfect guy while you’re sweating in the gym probably isn’t every girl's idea of the ideal introduction. However, if you like to keep fit and healthy, you won’t want someone who sits on the couch day in, day out. If you’re passionate about working out then it makes sense to find someone who feels the same way. Use the gym at peak times and join in some of the classes on offer so you can meet as many people as possible while you’re there.
Comic-Con
Do you love your sci-fi? Perhaps you’re a huge fan of comic books or fantasy movies. If so, going to a few comic-con events could result in you finding your forever match. There’s nothing quite like talking to someone and connecting on a level you rarely do with others. Perhaps you’ll find the Han Solo to your Leia just by doing something you love. The best part about going to Comic-con is you get to go in costume. Being in costume gives you a kind of confidence you don’t often find in everyday life, so make the most of it!
Go on Holiday
Perhaps you’re not finding Mr. Right because he isn’t in your country. It’s not unheard of for holiday romances to turn into something more in time. A singles holiday is the ideal way to explore parts of another country and meet new single men in the process. Going on a planned holiday is the best way to make sure you’re safe and you have a point of contact should you need any advice. You meet someone foreign or you may meet someone from your own country doing the exact same thing as you. Either way, who could turn down a holiday and a chance at finding love?
Dog Park
If you have a dog, you’ll know how important it is for dog owners to find someone who can get along with their dogs. For many single people, their dogs are the most important aspect of their lives so it goes without saying that dog owners will have an immediate connection. Where better to find someone who loves their dog as much as you than the dog park? If you’re both dog people, you won’t have to search for subjects to break the ice. It could be 101 Dalmatians all over again!
The Bookstore/Library
Do you love to read? Are you looking for your Mr. Darcy (or Mr. Grey)? When you’ve read so many romance novels that finding the right man seems near to impossible, there’s only one place to look – the book store. If you’ll only fall in love with a man that’s well read and sweep you off your feet with a sentence, you better get the bookstore or library and keep your eyes peeled. You’ll often be able to attend events, like readings or author signings too. Strike up a few conversations and see where it takes you.
Karaoke Night
There’s nothing quite as fun as karaoke night, and you may just find the man of your dreams there too. You may not like the idea of making a fool of yourself in front of someone attractive, but Mr Right may see it entirely differently. He may see someone who’s willing to let her hair down and enjoy life. Someone who doesn’t take everything so seriously and likes to go out and have some fun. On the flip side, is there anything more attractive than a man who can hold a tune? Imagine a handsome guy on stage, belting out an Ed Sheeran love ballad. Swoon!
Farmer’s Market
If you care about what you put into your body, you’ll only want to buy the best produce. Don’t try and hide that because there are plenty of men who feel the same way. Even if you don’t find an organic enthusiast at the farmer’s market, who’s to say you won’t find a rugged farmer who needs a wife? If you can imagine yourself in wellington boots, mud up to your ankles and living the good life with your farm animals, perhaps you’ll find the ideal man for you selling organic vegetables.
Public Transport
Bizarre place to meet your future spouse, isn’t it? Well, not necessarily. If you live in a city and you commute to work every day, you probably spend a fair amount of time on public transport. That’s time you could put to good use. Look up from your book or smartphone every once in a while and be aware of the people around you. Just one simple smile could strike up a conversation and before you know it, you’re spending all day looking forward to your usually long and boring train ride, just to see the guy you’ve taken a fancy to.
Weddings
Chances are you’ve been invited to a few weddings over the years, and going solo is no fun. But, instead of looking at weddings as events you have no choice but to attend, look at them as opportunities. There are usually plenty of single men at weddings looking for a relationship just like you are. Don’t try and hide in the background to avoid all the ‘why haven’t you got a date?’ questions. Be open and conversational. Get on the dance floor and enjoy yourself. Good things happen when you least expect them to.
Let Your Friends Fix You Up
Most people despise the thought of being fixed up by friends, dreading the type of man they’ll be paired with. But, your friends and family will often have a really good sense of what you’re looking for and who would be good for you. Sometimes, they even know better than you do. So, why not take the risk and meet the men they think would be a good fit? You’ve got nothing to lose and you may come away pleasantly surprised.
Online Dating
The problem with online dating is that you can never really be sure who you’re talking to. But, in a world that operates online, it’s a valid option for finding a date. There are so many options, including social media and sites like Match.com for you to choose from. Why waste your time wandering around when you could find what you’re looking for at the click of a button?
