Halloween is almost here, and we are about to see children everywhere coming out of their homes and roaming the streets with sheets on their faces and bags full of candy. If you want to get into the Halloween spirit this week, here are a few ways you can make your home into a SPOOKTACULAR haunted house.
Clashing Colours
Orange, green, purple and black are the epitome of Halloween colour, so why not add a touch to your home? There’s no need to go overboard and turn everything you own into an ode to Halloween, but some clever touches will certainly turn heads and help you achieve that spooky feel.
You can look up living room furniture collections in magazines to give you some inspiration on decorations to add to your Halloween home design. Some awesome ideas would be Halloween garlands and bunting, black skulls and technicolour pumpkins can be the perfect addition to your spooky theme.
Pumpkins Everywhere
Pumpkins are the ultimate symbol for fall. As soon as September hits, we are all creating pumpkin pies, enjoying pumpkin spiced lattes and finding every way to add the seasonal squash to our homes. If you don’t want to carve them, then try simply having pumpkins on display to add a splash of colour to the home. You could also use Pinterest to look for ways to paint your pumpkins for some fun weekend craft ideas.
Creepy Crawlies
Shops are full to the brim with spiders, skeletons and skulls to decorate the home with on a budget, grab a load of them and deck your halls (pardon the Christmas pun) with scary spiders and creepy crawlies. You can even buy some web and add it to the corners of your rooms, stick a spider up there and really freak out your guests.
Ghosts and Ghouls
Ghosts are one of the most iconic symbols of Halloween, which is why your home just isn’t complete without some sheet faced ghouls are hanging from your trees in the garden or the ceiling in your home.
Tombstones
The creepiest place to be on Halloween is a graveyard, which is why the perfect way to make your garden extra scary this Halloween is to craft some tombstones and place them in the front garden for passers-by to see. You can even create your own funny names on the tombstones or write out some puns to entertain people who visit.
Darkness Is Your Ally
If you’ve seen ‘Batman- Dark Knight Rises’, you’ll know that infamous line Bane utters in the cave. If not, never mind. The point is, darkness is a huge part of Halloween, it is what scares many of us because the darkness is unknown, anything could be out there ready to attack. Turn off the main lights, and instead opt for soft candlelight, Halloween fairy lights and dimmed light for ambience. You don’t want to ruin the scary vibe by having your home look like Times Square on a Saturday night.
