Christmas is well on its way so it’s time to dust off that toolbox and get some DIY done before you move on to the jolly festivities. The festive period is a brilliant time for you to get those home improvements done and you really will feel so much better when it’s all over and done with.
Painting the Guest Room
If you have a guest room then there is a high chance that it is in dire need of a lick of paint. Remember that preparation is everything so take the smaller items of furniture out of the room and put the bigger items in the centre of the room. You then need to make sure that you cover everything with a dust sheet or even plastic wrap. The first thing that you need to do is fill the cracks and small holes with some filler. Then, wipe down the walls, sand down the wood and skirting boards before vacuuming the whole room properly. Next comes the exciting part, choosing the paint! Water paint is ideal, but if you are painting woodwork then you’ll need a primer or an undercoat.
Buy a New Toilet Seat
If you have a cracked toilet seat then now would be the best time for you to get it sorted. The last thing that you need is for your guests to be uncomfortable when they are in your home, so find out the exact size of it and remove the old one by loosening the bolts on the hinges. Then clean the base thoroughly, and concentrate on the place where the bolts were as grime could build up here. If you don’t need a new seat, cleaning the toilet and bathroom is still a job that has to be done before Christmas! You’ll be super glad that you did and it is better than having a last-minute dash because you forgot to do it earlier.
Clean the Gutters
The last thing that you need is for your drains to freeze over, trapping all of that grime, mud and even debris for days on end. The best time for you to clean your gutters is during the summer but usually the margaritas end up calling and you become distracted from all of the things you said you’d do. If this sounds like you then try and clean out your gutters before they freeze over and make sure that the gutter isn’t blocked. You can use a pressure hose to do this and it is a great way for you to speed up the whole process. If you suspect that your drains are blocked and that there isn’t a problem with the gutter then this is still a job that needs to be sorted.
Consider getting a drains survey done. This will save you a ton of money in the future and it is a great way for you to really get the best result out of the whole process. After all, nobody wants to be sitting in puddles of sludge and water while they wait for Father Christmas to come!
