Holiday Outfits for Women Who Are Too Fabulous For the LBD - Guest Post By Mia Taylor

First of all, no one is diminishing the importance of the iconic little black dress. This is just one of those items every woman simply has to have in her closet. That being said, as gorgeous as a black dress is, when it comes to the holiday season, you have to admit that it’s a pretty safe choice. Holidays, on the other hand are a time to be bold, fierce, glitzy and glamorous. It is, aside from Halloween, the only time you are completely unrestrained and free to experiment with the boldest of outfits, splashes of colors and eclectic fabrics. So, with all these exciting options, let’s leave the LBD in the closet for now, and go hunting for more colorful pastures.

Go in the opposite direction

If anyone says that white can’t be as glamorous as black, well, they are completely wrong. There is something inexplicably chic, polished and sleek (not to mention sexy) about an all-white outfit. For daytime as well as nighttime festivities, own every room you walk into with a pair of sleek white pants with a subtle silver sheen and a matching sleeveless blouse. An outfit of this kind is every minimalist’s dream, but if you’re not a sworn minimalist, there is no reason not to go monochromatic. You can only adjust your choice of cut and go for something a tad more frilly and flirty, like this gorgeous blazer-dress as seen on Emily Ratajkowski. Add a splash of color with a pair of royal blue patent leather pumps and you can choose to keep the makeup minimal or go bold with your favorite shade of red. Either way, you will be voted most stylish at every event.

You are the dancing queen

A little glitter never hurt nobody, and for Christmas, when we say little, we mean a lot. One of the most poignant runway moments was the revival of the pantsuit, so why not suit up in sequin from head to toe. The best part of suiting up is that you can be completely fabulous yet conservative at the same time, and when the party starts to heat up, you can lose the blazer and it will be like a completely different outfit. A staple in women’s clothing choices are gorgeous tops, because they can elevate and complete every outfit, and for this occasion, a black sleeveless top would be pure perfection. Add a pop of color in the shoe department, and you can even match your clutch to the shoes. As far as glitter glam goes, there is no topping this.

A match made in heaven

When you’re in for an office Christmas party or cozy family time, there is no fabric more perfect for the occasion than velvet. There is something about it, it’s like velvet is the physical manifestation of the winter coziness. Now, while you could go with the super-trendy velvet suit, if you’re looking for something with a softer touch, the ultra-romantic pleated skirt in a warm raspberry shade is beyond perfection. You can top it off with a polka dot blouse or even a ¾ sleeve cashmere sweater in lavender for a full cute effect.

The show stopper

To all the celebrities out there who brought back the slip dress, we have two words – thank you! A dress so inexplicably sexy in all its simple-ness is exactly what you need if your top priority for a holiday outfit is for it to be sexy. Now, when it comes to color, a rich dark blue slip dress will give you that perfect mixture of sexiness and sophistication. It follows your curves but isn’t revealing which makes it enticing without being too much. Thanks to its simplicity, it gives you plenty of room to accessorize, but keep the jewelry in the silver family and for a bit of a twist, you can go with pink sandals (for a cuter look) or gorgeous red suede pumps for a full-on va-va-voom effect.
