Nothing is ever black and white when it comes to relationships. Except maybe the photos in this post! :) After a huge row or break up, there's usually your story, their story and the actual story.
It's human nature I guess, to tell the parts of the unfolding drama that we want to share and hide the bits that we think will reflect badly on ourselves. Maybe some of us even colour in a few details because in the heat of the moment when you despise your partner, you want everyone else to hate them aswell. But this does us no favours whatsoever. What happens if and when you and the guy/girl get back together again? All of a sudden you're back to your happy and hunkydory self but your family and friends now have an opinion on the situation. Perhaps they really don't like your partner anymore because of the details you've shared. Of course we all say and do things in the heat of the moment, this happens in every relationship. But whereas you'll forgive your partner in a few days, those that you've told won't necessarily forget. This can make things rather difficult and can have a negative impact on your relationships with both your romantic other and the third party involved. If it's friends and family who have got caught up in the situation and they're worried about you, they're bound to voice their thoughts which will only cause more conflict as you try to defend yourself or your partner.
Like I said at the beginning, nothing is ever black and white, and as we get older we tend to learn and realise this through experience, trial and error. Sure it's natural to have a gossip at work with the girls but remember to keep certain things private. Of course on the other hand, if you do need to share or if you're going through a particularly tough time, choose someone to talk to whom you trust and can confide in.
The basic rule to remember is if you don't want a bad memory or argument thrust in your face time and time again in months or years to come, then keep schtum.
