Having the extravagant wedding decor that you've always dreamed of for your big day doesn’t have to mean an equally extravagant budget. Before you splurge, do some research. There are tons of ways you can create the perfect wedding on a tight budget, all it takes is a little bit of creativity and some helpful hints to push you in the right direction...
Get Yourself To IKEA
No, you aren’t going to decorate your wedding venue in flat pack furniture - that would be absurd right? But IKEA does have more to offer than just affordable bookcases and wardrobes. It’s actually a really great place to pick up affordable centrepieces and bargain priced decorations that look anything but cheap. If you’re on a tight budget, IKEA is your best friend, or when it comes to the trimmings at least.
Go Shabby-Chic
If you have a tight budget to work with, then choosing a shabby chic or rustic country look for your wedding is a great way to keep costs at a minimum because the decor doesn’t have to look brand new or expensive. You can get away with using slightly ‘scruffy,’ scuffed and basic items for your whole wedding theme. It won't cost nearly as much as buying everything brand new would and no-one will think anything of it.
Forget Real Flowers
Real flowers are undoubtedly beautiful, but they’re also very expensive, and pretty wasteful - they don’t exactly have a long shelf life. So, why not fake your flowers instead? These days you can purchase pretty affordable fake flowers that are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing and which you can keep as mementos forever. Oh, and another plus, they also won’t stain your pretty bridal gown like real flowers would.
Make Use Of Nature’s Bounty
There’s nothing cheaper than nature, which is why if you’re really struggling to find the money to decorate your dream wedding, you might want to start foraging. Wildflowers look great in a bouquet, and things like pine cones and foliage are great for making centrepieces too. Just make sure that you aren’t picking anything that it is prohibited to pick!
If you want to take things even further, then pick a natural beauty spot to get married in, and you won’t have to pay for any decorations at all - I mean what could be more beautiful than nature’s own creation?
DIY
Of course if you're watching the pennies then some things are just going to be way too costly for you. However, if you’re absolutely desperate for a glittery bouquet of roses or you want customised wine bottles and the like, then why not have a go at creating them yourself? A lot of wedding decorations are so expensive due to the cost of labour rather than the cost of materials, so making your own is a great way to get the wedding of your dreams even when you have a tight budget to work with. It really isn’t as difficult as you might think!
If you’re determined to decorate your wedding venue in a certain way, then there is nothing to stop you from doing it, and the above ideas are a great place to start.
