Congratulations! You’re engaged and it’s time to start thinking about the big day. If you’ve never been married before you’re in for a bit of a shock. Planning a wedding involves so many tiny details that you probably never even considered before and there are a lot of things that could go wrong along the way. When you’re planning a wedding for the first time you need to make sure that you’re avoiding these mistakes.

Inaccurate Budgeting

Hopefully, you’ve already realized that you need to make a budget for your wedding to stop costs from spiraling out of control, but a lot of people don’t do an accurate budget and end up surprised when they go over it by quite a bit. You’ve already added up the costs of the dress, the venues, the food and the entertainment, but what about all of the other details. You need to remember all of the smaller things like the invitations, the table decorations, the place cards etc. The cost of these small details soon adds up so if you haven’t factored them into your budget, your estimates of what this wedding is going to cost will be way off.

Not Hiring A Wedding Planner

When you’re trying to keep the cost of your wedding down, you might be tempted to skip the wedding planner and do everything on your own, but you shouldn’t. The first thing to note is that having a wedding planner will actually make the cost of the whole wedding cheaper, even if you factor in the money you pay them. They’ll be able to get discounts from vendors that you can’t get and they’ll know lots of tips and tricks for cutting costs. They’ll also be able to deal with any problems that come up and generally make the whole thing a lot less stressful for you. This is especially important on the day itself because you won’t be able to enjoy it properly if you’re running around trying to make sure that everything is going to plan.

Not Planning For Rain

Even if you’re planning your wedding in the middle of summer, that’s not a guarantee that it won’t rain. It’s nice to be optimistic and hope that you’ll be blessed with sun on your wedding day but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan for the worst, particularly if you’re having an outside ceremony. Make sure that you’ve got plenty of shelter available for all of your guests, otherwise, the day will be a disaster. If you don’t put deposits down on tents and things beforehand, you’ll struggle to get them at short notice because summer is peak wedding season. It might seem like money down the drain right now but you’ll be glad that you did it if it does rain. If you don’t use them, you won’t get that deposit back but as long as you factor it into your budget, it shouldn’t cause you too many problems.
