A little encouragement goes a long way. It can help your child to build habits of a lifetime and grow to become a successful individual. While some of us have the gift of self-motivation, others just need a little nudge in the right direction. We have teamed up with an independent school in Enfield to share 5 ways that you can encourage your child.
Goal Setting
Knowing where you're heading or having a reminder of where you want to be is a great form of encouragement. To be frank, if we don't know why we’re doing something, why would we continue? Create a list of goals with your child and make sure to have a good mix of those for the long term and those for the medium term. Having a check in point halfway through can give your child all they need to see their progress and power through.
Plan Plan Plan
There is no point in setting a goal to reach Mars by the year 2050 if we don’t know how we’re getting there. Plans help us to understand the process and give us the confidence that we need to achieve. If academic, this might be something you work on together with a teacher. The more details you have, the better but always be mindful that anything can change with the drop of a hat but it is a good way of teaching your child resilience.
Take an Interest
Showing an active interest will show your child that you care. This sometimes this is all it takes to make the things we do worthwhile.
Believe in Them
Fill your child up with words of encouragement. The more they hear it, the more they’ll start to believe that they can do it!
Celebrate Their Accomplishments
Sometimes it’s nice to be made a song and a dance out of. Show your child just how proud you are of them and treat them with a nice little reward.
