From having the best tread in the tires to ensure the fluid levels are right in the windscreen wipers and in your water levels, you have to make sure that your car is not going to break down on you in the middle of nowhere. This is especially important if you’re planning on travelling through places that don’t tend to have a signal. Speak to a mechanic and book your car in for a once over before you go.

  • Sleep well the night before. As the driver, the one thing you really need to avoid is sleepiness and drowsiness on the road. Driving while you are exhausted is the quickest way that you can crash your car. It’s not a risk that has been talked about as often as driving under the influence but it’s one that is very important. No signs that you should pull over because you’re feeling drowsy is also important, so make sure that you do your research.

  • Remove distractions. When you’re on the road and you’re on a long trip, the last thing you need is distractions in the car. Keeping your attention 100% on the road at all times it’s not always easy but trying to multitask puts you in more danger. Make sure that you don’t have a TV playing in the car, but it’s absolutely fine to have music going. There’s no such thing as a road trip without a concert in the car, right?
