What does it offer to your child in order to help them with their academic development? Each school has its pros and cons, but what makes it a good school depends on what it offers to both parent and child in the long run. This could be based on what the school offers all the way down to how individual teachers teach and treat their students. Below is some advice on what to look out for when trying to pinpoint what makes a good school.

 

The teachers should have belief that all of their students can learn. One of the most basic requirements are being an educator is to have full belief that your students can reach their potential. If this isn't the case, then it is something that should be avoided when looking for a good school.

 

The students attending the school should all be learning no matter their economic, racial, ethnic or linguistic background. It is important to understand that all students are succeeding and the minority are not falling behind.

 

The school has a good reputation of communicating well with parents when it comes to important issues and asks for parental input before making big decisions. All in all, the school is there to serve the community. If there are big changes happening in the school or students are falling behind or behaving badly, parents have the right to be contacted in some way and have input in the decision's made.

 

The school must be safe. No parent wants to send their child to a school where both teachers and students feel unsafe on the premises. If violent behaviour and bullying are something that is common then it is safe to say that this school is not a particularly good one.

 

At the end of the day, every parent will have their own list of things that make the school good. However, there is so much more to the school based on its test scores and building ratings. The school should align with your child's goals in life which will help them to succeed.
